Once upon a time, computers were something you’d just find in offices or big industries. Now, they’re in our pockets, on our wrists, and even in our fridges! Sometimes, though, they mess up and need a little help getting back on track. That’s where understanding computer repair comes in.

Computer repair goes a whole lot further than just fixing a busted screen or a slow running system. It’s all about knowing how to carefully and intelligently solve a problem. To do this, five main skills are needed: identification, understanding, evaluating, execution and checking up to fix any tech troubles.

First up is identification. Now, if something isn’t working right, you’ve got to figure out what the problem is before you can fix it. This is like when your bike’s chain comes off—you’ve got to figure that out before you can pop it back on the sprocket.

Understanding is the second important skill. Once you’ve found out what’s wrong, you need to know why it’s happening. Continuing with the bike example, you’d need to know why your chain keeps coming off—is it loose or is the alignment off?

Evaluation is next up. This might not be needed with our bike, but with a computer, you want to look at all the possible solutions before picking the best one. Maybe your computer is slow because there’s too much stuff on it. You could delete some things, but maybe it’s easier to buy some more storage instead.

Execution is where you put your solution into action. If you picked buying more storage as your plan, then you’d need to do some research, choose the right one, and set it up with your computer.

Lastly, you need to check it worked. Think about it, if you put your bike chain back on but didn’t try riding it, how would you know if you really fixed it?

So, that’s it. Computer repair might seem like a lot, but it’s really just about problem-solving, having patience, and thinking through your solutions. Even if your computer problem seems like a biggie, remember these five steps. Practicing these skills will not only make you a troubleshooting pro, but they’ll also come in handy in all areas of life.
